Kohl's announced Tuesday that Amazon customers will be able to return items at all of its stores beginning in July.
The news cements a two-year collaboration between a department store retail chain and an online shopping giant. In 2017, the two companies launched a pilot program that allowed Amazon customers to return merchandise at Kohl's locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Milwaukee. Last month, Kohl's revealed that it would carry Amazon products in over 200 stores.
"We are thrilled to bring Amazon Returns at Kohl's to all of our stores across the country," Kohl's CEO Michelle Gass said in a statement. "Amazon and Kohl's have a shared passion in providing outstanding customer service, and this unique partnership combines Kohl's strong nationwide store footprint and omnichannel capabilities with Amazon's reach and customer loyalty."
This summer, Amazon customers can drop by any of the 1,150 Kohl's locations across 48 states to return items free of charge. The items do not have to be packaged for shipping — Kohl's will box or wrap them up and ship them to Amazon returns centers on behalf of the customers.
"This new service is another example of how Kohl's is delivering innovation to drive traffic to our stores and bring more relevance to our customers," Gass said.
So far, the relationship between the two companies seems to be paying off to an extent — especially for Kohl's. CNBC reports that research data showed that sales at Kohl's stores in Chicago outpaced nationwide sales last year. The retail giant's stock has also grown approximately 22 percent.
