Boris Johnson will address the nation today after it is revealed which lockdown tiers will apply to every area of England.

Officials have reportedly been preparing for the vast majority of England to be placed in Tier 2 or 3, with very few places being put in the softest Tier 1.

The tiers will take effect at 12.01am on Wednesday 2 December, at the same time as England’s national lockdown ends.

Mr Johnson reportedly held a meeting last night to piece together the list of tiers and Cabinet get a final look at them this morning.

The PM will speak to the nation having come out of self-isolation after having contact with Lee Anderson MP, who has had coronavirus.

“The Prime Minister will be doing a press conference later, the Health Secretary will be making a statement in Parliament later as well.

“We have a Cabinet meeting later this morning to go over these things and finalise them.

“But people will see a tangible change, wherever they are, compared to the last four weeks.”

Most areas, like London, are expected to be in Tier Two, with significant numbers in Tier Three, according to reports.

The main differences between the Tiers includes a limit on where households can meet up, with Tier One allowing for the Rule of Six indoors and out.

In Tier Two, the Rule of Six remains outdoors only, with indoors socialising banned.

The new tiers will be a stricter, beefed-up replacement of the three-tiered system England used prior to the national lockdown.

Decisions over which area goes into which their is based on five factors: Case detection rate, how quickly rates change, positivity in the population, pressure on the NHS, and local context.
