Burglary suspect shot by Denver police dies; deceased man found at scene identified as burglary victim

A man found dead at the scene of a burglary in east Denver has been identified as the owner of the burglarized home, and one of the three suspects in the crime has died of his wounds after Denver police officers shot him.

The two deaths stem from a chaotic scene Monday in the 900 block of North Monaco Parkway. Police responded to reports of a burglary in progress involving three men. When police arrived, they found a man dead outside the house — later identified as the owner of the burglarized home — and one of the suspects fleeing the scene. Police also found a woman inside the home who had been shot and injured during the burglary.

Police arrested the fleeing suspect but then heard gunfire about a block to the north. Police responded to the area and found a man attempting a carjacking. A Denver police officer shot the man and took him into custody. The man, who is also suspected in the burglary, later died at a hospital of his wounds.

A third suspect has not yet been arrested, Denver police said late Monday night. Investigators believe the man fled the scene in a black Honda sedan with temporary license plates.

None of the suspects or the victims have been publicly identified by police. The woman who was shot remained in critical condition Monday night, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
