The first look of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's much-awaited interview has been released.

It was posted on on Monday by US channel CBS on their YouTube, where Meghan and Harry are joined by Oprah, discussing their decision to step back from their role.

The bombshell interview has caused controversy since its announcement, with family members said to be blindsided.

In the dramatic chat preview, Oprah asks Meghan: "Were you silent, or were you silenced?"

The 30 second first look trailer gives a glimpse of what to expect on March 7 when the full episode releases.

Oprah also says: "There sounds like there was a breaking point."

In the second half of the trailer, Oprah questions Harry, 36, who says: "My biggest concern was history repeating itself."

Both Harry and Meghan are sat next to each other holding hands, while Oprah sits opposite.

The trailer shows the interview will touch on topics such as why Meghan and Harry decided to step back as senior members of the Royal Family.

According to a close friend of Oprah, the interview is the "best she's ever done."

CBS has posted the clip with the caption "there is no subject that is off limits."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed Winfrey to their £11million California home 10 days ago.

Precisely what was discussed has been kept a closely-controlled secret – however, now viewers can get an idea from the 30 second clip.

Oprah initially spoke one-on-one with Meghan before Harry joined them.

The interview is expected to cover the couple’s exit from the Royal Family as well as their philanthropic work to what life has been like living in lockdown with baby Archie.

It was revealed just after Valentine’s Day that their split from the Royal Family is permanent and the couple will no longer be allowed to serve in the Queen’s name.

Harry and Meghan’s appearance has been met with criticism from some who claim the couple are contradicting their wish for privacy, which they said was a key reason they chose to step down as senior members of the Royal Family.

CBS is keen to sell Oprah with Meghan And Harry: A Primetime Special across to the UK to allow for a greater audience and greater coverage for Meghan and Harry – so it will eventually be available to watch this side of the pond.
