Harry and Meghan make audacious bid for UK summit after months of rows

Harry and Meghan have made an unexpected request for a UK meeting with the Queen in the coming weeks, it has been reported.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be planning to finally introduce the Queen to her great-granddaughter Lilibet in person, should she agree to meet them.

The request comes with the couple holding out an “olive branch” to Royal Family following the Oprah chat row.

It will be the first joint return trip to the UK for the ex-royal couple since March 2020's Megxit.

It has been reported that Harry offered an "olive branch" to his family as he and Meghan plan a christening for four-month-old Lilibet, possibly at Windsor Castle.

Senior staff have said to be stunned by the request for a meeting, just months after the couple aired their grievances in a explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, The Sun reports.

Harry's upcoming memoir is reportedly causing quite a stir in the monarchy too, with the Sun on Sunday recently telling how The Queen’s aides were getting “lawyered up” against any new claims.

A source said: “Harry and Meghan have made this offer but a lot of people are shocked by the sheer nerve of it. They may genuinely want to see the Queen but it’s breathtaking given what they’ve put her through this year.

“Her Majesty’s staff have not responded so far. In fact there has also been discussion about Christmas — and whether an invitation should be sent to Harry and Meghan, after they spurned one last year.

"The Queen is still very fond of Harry, and would love to see Lilibet and her brother Archie.

“But courtiers are surprised by the move, especially from Meghan, after what has happened.”

The couple welcomed Lilibet in June but controversy erupted over whether they consulted the Queen about using her nickname for the tot.

In April, Harry travelled back to the UK alone for his granddad Prince Philip's funeral. Biographer Omid Scobie says Harry met The Queen privately twice during his stay.

The last UK appearance from Harry was in July to unveil a statue of his mum Diana.

The Sussexes and Buckingham Palace have been contacted for comment.

It's been a year like no other for the Queen from the loss of her husband to heartache over Prince Harry. But Her Majesty has also had a lot of cause for celebration, including the birth of baby Lilibet. To mark what a year the Queen has had, OK!
