Heavy rain to batter the UK this weekend after yellow weather warnings issued

    The Met Office has issued several yellow weather warnings with heavy rain expected to take hold of the UK this weekend.

    As well as the weather warnings, they've also alerted residents that the heavy rain could potentially lead to flooding of homes or businesses and disruption to travel.

    Two separate yellow warnings have also been issued in the South West of England and South Wales with one being issued in Scotland.

    Forecasters said that the rain could cause some disruption on Saturday afternoon and night, with potential flooding and sprays on roads making journey times longer and in some cases, delay travel.

    Met Office forecaster Craig Snell spoke on the possibility of snowfall in the coming weeks and said its likely to occur in the new year.

    He said: "At the moment, there is no real strong signals of anything significant snowfall-wise for the next couple of weeks, at least."

    Mr Snell said spells of snow is likely to occur in January and February.

    The meteorologist said: "Generally, temperatures will be cooling off as we head towards mid-December and the risk of frost will become more common.

    The Met Office's long-range weather forecast from November 29 to December 8 predicts periods of rain and gusty winds with unsettled weather here to stay.

    The forecast adds: "Southern and eastern areas are more likely to see generally drier conditions, but some showers are possible in eastern coastal areas.

    "Temperatures overall likely to be around average at first, but with an increased change of somewhat colder conditions developing, compared to the start of this period."
