Madeleine McCann suspect admitted he lived near apartment where she vanished

Madeline McCann's prime suspect Christian Brueckner has allegedly admitted being near the family’s holiday apartment when she vanished.

His ex-girlfriend Nakscije Miftari alleges the sex offender made the admission after Maddie’s disappearance came up during a party with pals at their flat in 2014.

The 25-year-old said: “After they went, I asked about Maddie as I did not know anything about her.

“I asked him about it and he said, ‘I know about Maddie, I was near the hotel at the time. I was living in the area at the time. I am not going to say anything more. I am not a stupid guy, I am a businessman.’”

Nakscije’s comments have been shared with police in Germany, where investigators have said they are convinced that imprisoned sex offender Brueckner is the culprit. German prosecutors last month said they were taking time to build a watertight case against him.

First pinpointed in 2017 as a suspect, he was living in a camper van close to Praia da Luz when Maddie disappeared, aged three, from the Ocean Club resort on May 3, 2007.

Nakscije also claims Brueckner knocked her out in an attack when she found evidence of his lust for child pornography featuring little blonde girls.

She says he attacked her around a year into their relationship after she discovered his secret stash on his mobile and laptop.

She said: “I asked him about the videos and pictures and that’s when he punched me. I fell down the stairs and was unconscious for about 10 minutes.”

Madeline's parents are said to have a "new hope" that their daughter will be found after police tracked down a missing four-year-old girl in Australia.

A police raid of a house in Carnarvon found Cleo Smith alive and well on Monday after she vanished from a family campsite some 18 days before.

She had been dubbed the 'Australian Madeleine McCann' as her disappearance bore a striking resemblance to that of the then three-year-old English girl, who went missing in 2007 on holiday in Portugal.

Kate and Gerry McCann are reportedly "thankful" that Cleo was found and have been reminded that there is always hope, reports The Mirror.
