Matt Hancock told wife he was leaving her the night before aide kiss revealed

Disgraced ex-Health Secretary Matt Hancock reportedly told his wife he was leaving her the night before the damning affair with his aide was revealed.

Mr Hancock, who has resigned due to his flagrant breach of Covid rules, was filmed kissing government millionaire lobbyist Gina Coladangelo at the Department of Health's London HQ.

After the Sun announced to him that they would be releasing images from the CCTV they obtained of the two kissing, Mr Hancock reportedly sped off home on Thursday night to tell his wife he was leaving her.

He announced to Martha, who thought they were "happy and stable," their marriage was over, according to The Sunday Times.

The couple had been married for 15 years, having met at university.

The claims come after a Tory source told the Mirror that Mr Hancock’s marriage was “completely over”.

“Everyone in Westminster and the Department of Health is talking about it," the source said.

"Hancock’s pathetic apology for breaching social distancing guidelines has gone down so badly.

"It’s not the affair, it’s the hypocrisy – the do as I say, not as I do."

Mr Hancock, 42, was at his Suffolk constituency home today, while Martha, 44, was at the family house in London.

He resigned the day after video footage emerged of him kissing an aide in his ministerial office in a breach of coronavirus restrictions.

Images and video showed Mr Hancock in an embrace with Ms Coladangelo last month, and the Health Secretary faced increasing pressure to quit over the breaking of social-distancing rules.

Mr Hancock’s office and Ms Coladangelo, who is believed to have left her role at the Department of Health, were contacted for comment.

Sky News reports that Mr Hancock is now in a relationship with Ms Coladangelo, with friends saying it was 'recent but serious'.

Mr Hancock finally fell on his sword, writing to Boris Johnson on Saturday and saying: "The last thing I would want is for my private life to distract attention from the single-minded focus that is leading us out of this crisis.

"I want to reiterate my apology for breaking the guidance, and apologise to my family and loved ones for putting them through this. I also need to be with my children at this time."

He paid tribute to NHS staff and Department of Health and Social Care officials and admitted that "we didn't get every decision right".

But he said: "I know people understand how hard it is to deal with the unknown, making the difficult trade-off between freedom, prosperity and health that we have faced."

He said: "We owe it to people who have sacrificed so much in this pandemic to be honest when we have let them down as I have done by breaching the guidance."
