Mum of Texas gunman begs innocent children who died to forgive her and her son

The mother of the Texas gunman who killed 19 children, two teachers and his grandmother earlier this week has broken her silence and said her son ‘had his reasons’.

Adriana Martinez spoke to CNN and sobbed as she begged for forgiveness and hopes the “innocent children who died forgive her”.

Through a translator, the mother of Salvador Ramos, 18, was visibly upset as she tried to understand her son’s actions and begged forgiveness from the families of the victims.

"I have no words. I have no words to say. I don’t know what he was thinking. He had his reasons for doing what he did and please don’t judge him," said Martinez.

"I only want the innocent children who died to forgive me. Forgive me, forgive my son. I know he had his reasons."

The first victim of the massacre was Martinez’s mother. On Tuesday, Ramos shot his own grandmother in the face before stealing her car and driving to the local elementary school where he opened fire at students and teachers alike before the police gunned him down. He fatally shot 19 children, two teaches and injured 17 others.

When his mother was asked what ‘reasons’ his son killed for, she replied: "To get closer to those children. Instead of paying attention to the other bad things. I have no words. I don’t know.

“My son wasn’t a violent person. I’m surprised by what he did.

“I pray for those families. I’m praying for all of those innocent children, yes I am. They (the children) had no part in this.”

The gunman’s father with the same name as his son also spoke out about the actions of his child to the Daily Beast.

“I just want the people to know I’m sorry, man, [for] what my son did.”

“I never expected my son to do something like that,” he said, before adding: “He should’ve just killed me, you know, instead of doing something like that to someone.”

After hearing about the event, he called the local prison to see if he could locate his son. He then found out that he had also been killed.

“They killed my baby, man," he said. "I’m never going to see my son again, and they’re never going to see their kids. And that hurts me.”
