A pervert was snared by paedo hunters after he bombarded what he believed was a 14-year-old schoolgirl with online demands for sex.

Derek Broadfoot, from Anfield, Liverpool, also sent the bogus teen a naked picture over Facebook during the space of more than a week.

But, unbeknownst to him, the 29-year-old was actually contacting a decoy account, Liverpool Crown Court heard yesterday (Wednesday, July 6).

Broadfoot, of Belmont Drive, first contacted the decoy – which displayed a profile picture of a "young teenage girl" – at around 4am on April 14 last year, at which time he was informed of her supposed age.

The pair then exchanged messages over the course of the following nine days, with him asking the schoolgirl, "Will you be my girlfriend" and telling her she was "sexy" on several occasions, reports The Liverpool Echo.

Broadfoot, who suffers from learning difficulties, also sent the teenager a photograph of his penis – when the idea of meeting up to go shopping was mentioned, he asked: "What's in it for me?"

He talked about "kissing and cuddling" and "getting naked if she wanted to", as well as sending the message "I want sex" numerous times.

Another member of the paedophile hunter group then made arrangements to meet up with him for sex at Princes Park Health Centre on April 29 2021 – at which point Broadfoot was arrested by police.

But Broadfoot, who has two previous convictions for assault and battery in 2013, told officers that his social media account had been hacked.

He admitted attempting sexual communications with a child and was handed an eight-month imprisonment suspended for 18 months, before he was warned by judge David Potter.

He said, "Be in no doubt that you must not go on the internet looking for young people to communicate with sexually. If you do that, you will be going to prison next time."

Broadfoot was also given a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 35 days and told to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work. He must sign the sex offenders' register for the next 10 years and was given a sexual harm prevention order lasting the same period.
