A school teaching assistant had sex with a 15-year-old boy after telling him that "age is just a number."

Mold Crown Court in North Wales heard that teaching assistant Rebecca Williams and the 15-year-old had exchanged flirty messages online and told one another "You're fit".

Prosecutor Richard Edwards told the court that the 21-year-old defendant had picked up the boy one weekend and taken him to her home.

Edwards said: "They watched TV before the defendant took him to her bedroom. He described the first time as a little awkward."

The court heard that the pair kissed and had sex and that the unnamed boy had stayed overnight.

Mr Edwards also said that Williams had messaged the boy to meet up again, and when they did went straight to her bedroom to have sex.

The court also heard that the victim blocked Williams on messaging apps after she wanted more of a relationship.

Mr Edwards said: "Rumours started circulating among staff that the defendant had slept with a pupil. The head of the school questioned the defendant directly about the information. The defendant denied anything untoward had gone on."

Social services and police were informed and the boy confirmed that the pair had had sex, with the prosecution adding that some of the messages between the two must have been exchanged on school grounds.

Williams admitted to two offences of sexual activity with a boy of 15 and abusing a position of trust.

Jemma Gordon, defending, said that a pre-sentence report listed Williams as "a low risk of re-offending. She's in a new relationship which has helped her."

Williams, who WalesLive reported as showing no emotion in the dock, has since been working a new job in construction and the court heard she is receiving help for her mental health.

Judge Nicola Saffman imposed a 12-month suspended sentence on Williams who must pay costs of £576 and register as a sex offender for 10 years, with Saffman saying: "You knew what you were doing. You were working up to engage in a sexual relationship with him."
