Across the UK, grey skies, heavy rain and thunderstorms have dominated the weather forecast, and yet more is on the way this weekend. Already weather alerts have been in place for heavy rain across the north of England, with four flood warnings in place following the downpours.
Forecasters are warning of a mixed day of weather on Saturday, with central and south-east England predicted to see bright, warm and fine weather.
However, a band rain over the North Sea will track across the northern half of the UK, with showers breaking out.
These showers could turn heavy and thundery, spreading across much of the North of England.
There will be bright and sunny patches on Saturday, but an overall wet feel for the North.

This could trigger more flood warnings for the North of England, with four in place following Friday’s yellow weather warnings for rain.
Two flood warnings – meaning flooding is expected, immediate action required – are in place for
- River Esk at Lealholm
- River Esk from Briggswath to Ruswarp
A further two flood alerts – meaning flooding is possible, be prepared – are in place for
- River Esk catchment
- Upper River Derwent
Met Office spokesperson Nicola Maxey told Express.co.uk: “In general we’ve got lots of rain and heavy showers throughout the weekend.
“The weather warnings for the North East are in place until 2 o’clock today, and there aren’t anymore in situ at the moment, but we’re certainly keeping an eye on the situation over the next few days through the weekend and into the start of next week.
On Saturday, the centre of an area of low pressure will be closer to South West England, bringing lots of showers to southern Wales and the West Country.
Again, these showers pose a risk of turning into heavy downpours and even thunderstorms.

There will be more cloud and temperatures in the high teens with an east to southeast breeze along the Channel coast.
Netweather warns some weather maps may show this risk of showers, but they could miss your location completely, or you get a heavy downpour.
So, keep an eye on the rain radar and you can see where they develop and are moving to.
In the warmer air, more parts will have temperatures into the 20sC with up to 25 or 26C possible on Saturday.
These highs are most likely around Cambridgeshire.
Heavy showers will move over South West Wales as the evening becomes quieter and calm.
Thick low cloud will drift in off the North Sea over North East England and later down to Norfolk, so a grey, cool start here on Sunday.
Further west heavy showers break out again, still with the risk of a few thundery ones as temperatures lift into the 20sC with hardly any breeze.
