Sick Russian soldiers raped and tortured a Ukrainian woman before burning a swastika onto her corpse, an MP has claimed.

Lesia Vasylenko, a politician for the liberal Holos party in Ukraine, made the horror claims in a Twitter post.

"Tortured body of a raped and killed woman," she said. "I’m speechless. My mind is paralysed with anger and fear and hatred. #StopGenocide #StopPutinNOW."

Alongside her tweet was a grim image of a woman's torso, either burned or smeared with blood to fashion a swastika. The news comes as Russia has been accused of war crimes and genocide.

Her tweet was disputed by pro Russian-accounts, and independent journalist Patrick Lancaster posted a video on YouTube on Sunday, March 27, claiming that he saw the civilian woman in the basement of a school in Mariupol.

Lancaster said the school was being used by Ukrainian forces and that it was in fact blood on the woman's torso, as opposed to burns.

His video shows Ukrainian flags and purports to show Ukrainian weapons, too. A soldier with him says that he saw National Guard and Azov uniforms at the burnt out site, which the battalion were said to have been defending.

But Vasylenko tweeted yesterday (Sunday, April 3), saying: "Russian soldiers loot, rape and kill. 10 y.o. girls with vaginal and rectal tears. Women with swastika shaped burns. Russia. Russian Men did this. And Russian mothers raised them. A nation of immoral criminals."

Wyatt Reed, who works for Sputnik News, which is a Russian state-owned news agency, said Vasylenko was peddling a "disinformation campaign," and that her tweets were "vile".

"This Ukrainian member of Parliament posted a photo of a woman tortured and murdered by the nazi regiment of the Ukrainian National Guard a week ago and is passing it off as the Russians’ handiwork. This isn’t a mistake or an aberration—it’s the Ukrainian nationalists’ entire M.O." he said.

Reed added: "Millions of impressions between these two depraved tweets alone. How many people have been taken in by this vile disinformation campaign to whitewash nazis currently being willfully encouraged by @Twitter?"

However, pro-Ukrainian accounts said Russian forces deliberately mutilated the body as part of a "false flag" to justify their invasion.

Vladimir Putin said that the goal of his "special military operation" in Ukraine is to "de-Nazify" the country.

However, many believe this to be an excuse to invade Ukraine, not least because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is Jewish and has said that members of his family were killed during World War II.

NBC reported that Putin used the claim to "stir up feelings of national vengeance against a WWII foe to justify conquest."

But, it is also no secret that Ukraine has a neo-Nazi problem.

The Azov Battalion, founded by an avowed white supremacist who claimed Ukraine’s national purpose was to rid the country of Jews and other supposed inferior races, is an official member of the Ukraine National Guard.

However, Putin's forces have been accused of genocide after evidence of summary executions, torture and rape was found in areas formerly under their control.

Harrowing images from Bucha, on the outskirts of capital Kyiv, show bodies piled up in the street, with witnesses saying many appeared to have been shot while their hands were bound behind their backs.
